Financial Planning for Divorce

In 1995, after being recruited by many different entities looking for women with a strong business background, Debbie decided to follow a passion and become a Certified Financial Planner. After interviewing many banks, insurance companies, and proprietary houses, she decided the best fit for her was an independent financial planning firm, and joined Mr. Ossie Fisher at Professional Investments. Having been there over 25 years, it seems the fit was perfect.

In 2003 she was contacted by the Institute for Divorce Financial Analysts, and recruited to write the course to share this important knowledge with other Financial Advisors across Canada. Not only did she write and teach the course, but she became the predominant contact for the Canadian media, when discussing all matters relating to finance and the separation of marital property. Canadian Living, Chatelaine, Report on Business, The Globe and Mail, to mention a few, have all reached out to Debbie when writing on this life changing event.

Along with her CFP and CDFA designations, Debbie also has her CLU, TEP, RRC, and CEA, which basically covers every major designation you can achieve when it comes to financial, estate, and tax planning. Over the years, Debbie has also been president of the Estate Planning Council of Eastern Ontario, and has served on the board of ADVOCIS and several other industry boards and panels.

She believes in education, and working at the highest level so that she can help any client with anything relating to their financial well-being. Along with a team of established Associates in every professional field, she helps her clients feel comfort when it comes to their financial stability.

Whether your needs include retirement planning, income planning, estate issues, tax issues, or marital adjustment, Debbie can develop and implement a plan that is tailored to your dreams and desires. Your plan will be actionable and attainable, and she has many clients that are always happy to attest to that.

What do we do?

We help clients understand the confusing financial implications that divorce brings. It does not have to be devastating; it needs to be understood. By working with a team of lawyers and other support people, you can manage your way out of an overwhelmingly difficult time.

Establish what is right for you. Don’t leave it to guess or chance. (A friend might have a suggestion, but remember, her situation is completely different – we have seen it all).

We help you establish the best method of managing your situation and pair you with lawyers that are trained to work in either Alternative Dispute Resolution, or Litigation. This means you will not have to change your support team because you have picked someone who does not see things the same way you do. This saves you time and money.

How it works

Initial free telephone consults with Debbie Hartzman, CFP.CLU.CDFA.TEP.

If we’re able to help and add value to the process, we will provide you with a financial checklist to help you get all of your documents in the proper order. (The more you do, the less the process will cost).

In our first meeting, we will complete a questionnaire to determine your personal financial position, along with your needs and desires. We will establish the method of settlement that will best suit your personal situation, and provide a list of professionals that you can interview and add to your support team.

The separation may be taking place now, but, the financial decisions you make will impact you for the rest of your life.  The work we do is completely different than the lawyers work.  We help you understand the tax and future liabilities of all assets as well as income planning for today and the future.

We will work to guide you through every step of the process to make it understandable and manageable.
We provide the following:

– Client care – support with any decision you have to make

– Financial wisdom

– you may not have had to deal with these issues in the past
